WHAT IS GUIDING?

Guiding is an educational youth Movement. It is open to all girls without distinction of creed, race, nationality or any other circumstance.

Lady Baden-Powell, World Chief Guide and wife of our Founder once said:

“In a world fraught with uncertainty and fear, our Movement shines out as a golden chain against a dark background. The links in the chain are forged out of the finest gold, our Promise and Law.”

Guiding is a game of adventure, observation, knowledge and ideas. It is an education in life skills that will encourage each girl to be a responsible citizen and to lead a useful life. It does not seek to compete with what parents, school, religion and other youth organizations are doing BUT to complement them.

THE AIMS AND PRINCIPLES OF GUIDING

The aim is to provide girls with the opportunity for self-training in the development of character, in the realisation of responsible citizenship and promotion of service to the community. To maintain a high ethical standard based on the aims and principles embodied in the “Promise and Law” as laid down by the Founder and to encourage international goodwill and understanding by establishing friendly relations with girls of other nations.
