Q: What is Girl Guides Singapore (GGS) about?
A: Girl Guides is an educational youth Movement.  It is open to all girl without distinction of creed, race, nationality or any other circumstance.  The aim is to provide girls with the opportunity for self-training in character development, responsibility and service to community. Girls are nurtured through a 5-Point Programme: Personal and Social Development, Home, Outdoors, Community and International. There are 10 million members in 144 countries.  It is a non-formal educational programme to develop leadership and decision-making as well as life skills.

Q: Where is the Guide shop located?
A: The shop is located on the ground floor of the Guide House at 9 Bishan St 14, Singapore 579785.  For directions, please refer to Contact Us page.

A: You can purchase them from the shop. For school orders please fill in this form and fax it to Mrs Esther Ling. For non-school purchases, you may purchase cookies from the Guide Shop directly.

Q: What are the modes of payment?
A: Cash or cheque.

Q: Can we purchase the Guide cookies anywhere else?
A: No, unless there are organized public sales.

Camp Christine

Q: Can I book Camp Christine even though I'm not a member of Girl Guides Singapore?
A: Yes.

Q: How many people can sleep in a lodge?
A: 40.

Q: What facilities are available in  the lodge?
A: 20 double decker beds upstairs (can accomodate 40 pax), toilets, a mini-hall with 8 big tables and 40 - 50 chairs,  and chairs, and a kitchenette. Kitchenette consist of 2 stoves, cooking utensils, fridge, electric rice cooker and cooler for drinks.

Q: If there are 43 people going to the Camp, is the balance of the 3 people allowed to bring their own sleeping bags?
A: If they have booked a lodge, the balance 3 people are not allowed to bring their own sleeping bags. They should book an extra lodge or camping cluster. If the campers (member of GGS) booked camping clusters, they are entitled for 7 tents where each can accommodate 8 people. Therefore, can accommodate 56 people. As for non-members, they will be issued 4 tents where each can accommodate 8 people. In total, can accommodate 32 people. For the balance of 11 people, they can request tents from Camp Warden provided the tents are available for rent. We have 15 tents available for members of GGS and 9 tents available from non-members.

Q: Does the campsite operate during Public Holidays?
A: Yes, except for Hari Raya Puasa.  Campers must check in and check out the day before or after Hari Raya Puasa.  There will be no wardens in campsite during the public holiday.

Q: Does the warden help to pitch tents for the campers?
A: The camp warden will help to pitch tents but campers are to inform him earlier. If the campers booked the camping clusters and do not intend to use the tents, GGS will not lower the cost.

Q: Is the kitchen shelter free for use for all the Campers?
A: Yes.

Q: How long are we given to confirm the booking? How do we make payment? Do we need pay in person or can we send a cheque?
A: Payment must be made within 3 weeks after the booking is made. Payment be can be made via IFAAS (for schools only), Cheque or Cash.

Q: Is there any special rate given to voluntary welfare organizations? Can we ask for a discount?
A: Rates are available online. These rates are already subsidized for VWOs and tertiary institutions.

Q: Is there any instructor available for kayaking session?
A: The Guiders would check with camp warden if he is available to conduct the session. After verbal confirmation from the camp warden, they would book the canoes. We have 15 double canoes and 4 single canoes. For schools hiring external instructors, canoes may be issued only if there is a lifeguard in attendance (ratio 1:10). A copy of the instructor’s expertise certificate from either of the following must be submitted to the Camp Warden upon check-in at the campsite for booking of canoes/kayaks:
a) lifesaving certificate OR
b) safety boat license
Only certification from Singapore Life Saving Society OR Maritime Port Authority is
acceptable. Users who submit a safety boat license must hire their own boat for use
as GGS does not provide safety boats.
