GIRL GUIDES SINGAPORE LAUNCHES THE
SINGAPORE 2010 YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES INTEREST PATCH
As the largest single-gender uniformed group and a major youth movement in Singapore, Girl Guides Singapore (GGS) is proud that Singapore has won the bid to be the host city for the Youth Olympics Games (YOG) inaugural in 2010.
As a pledge of GGS’ support for this world’s first YOG, a new interest patch – the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Interest Patch, will be launched at the GGS Annual General Meeting on 16 May 2009.
The objectives of the interest patch are to create greater awareness of the YOG among our members and to promote the three Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect, which are already encompassed in the Guide Laws.
The GGS-YOG Interest Patch is for both Brownies and Guides. Each member has to complete all clauses stipulated in the requirements to a satisfactory level to obtain the patch. Upon completion, the Guides/Brownies would have a better understanding of the service, educational, cultural and sports aspects of the YOG.
Prior to this, GGS has been actively involved in each CAN! (Create Action Now!) Event. Our Guides volunteered as road marshal at CAN! Run on 10 January 2009, and also participated in the run to mark the start of the CAN! Events and the unveiling of the YOG logo.
In the recent CAN! Discover on 18 April 2009, some Guides were booth assistants and others participated in the W.A.D! In the World, W.A.D.!’s Next Race and VISOUT.
We are confident that this interest patch will continue to be part of the GGS programme even after the YOG in 2010 because of our government’s continuous effort to promote sports as a way life.
