Girl Guides Singapore Carnival

Despite the H1N1 flu and recession looming in the background, the GGS
carnival that was held on 27 June at Guide House saw a huge crowd turnout.
The theme of this year's carnival is "Together we can change our world", in
line with the Global Action Theme of the World Association of Girl Guides
and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). This was not only a fund-raising event but a
platform where our girls and young women are encouraged to hone in their
entrepreneurial skills and business acumen through planning, organising and
promoting of items to be sold at their stalls.

In addition, this is the first time a GGS event of such magnitude had
involved the Young Adults (YAs) - aged 17 to 25 - in its planning and
organisation, in which all the committee heads are YAs. GGS emphasises youth
empowerment and leadership by encouraging its members to step up and
participate in the conception and execution of its activities. This provides
an avenue for youth to develop their character and abilities, allowing them
to better contribute to the community.
Thank you to all Adult Leaders, Guides, Brownies and their family members
for joining us in the carnival.
